UNCAC meeting at the United Nations in Vienna

The 14th session of the Implementation Review Group and the Working Group on Prevention 2023 convened at Vienna International Centre from 12 to 16 June 2023.

The Implementation Review Group is a subsidiary body of the Conference of the States Parties to the UNCAC (United Nations Convention against Corruption). The Open-ended Intergovernmental Working Group on the Prevention of Corruption, called the "Working Group on Prevention" is also a subsidiary body of the Conference of the States Parties.

At the meeting, delegates from the 189 States Parties to the UNCAC shared experiences and discussed challenges and best practices in the fight against corruption, in particular the strengthening of Supreme Audit Institutions. The Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK) was represented at the meeting by staff from Department 2 (Prevention, Education, International Cooperation).

During a panel discussion on the topic "Interlinkages between preventive and law enforcement approaches", a staff member of the BAK’s International Cooperation Unit provided information on the legal basis of the BAK with regard to international obligations, the interlinkages between corruption prevention and law enforcement as implemented in the BAK, and the Austrian National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS). He then answered numerous questions and discussed with the delegates various different approaches and types of efficiency measurements in the field of anti-corruption.
