Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI)
The Corruption Perceptions Index was first published in 1995 by the non-governmental organisation Transparency International.
The index awards points to 182 countries on a scale from 0 to 100, with zero points representing a high level of perceived corruption and 100 points representing no perceived corruption at all.
Data from 13 individual indices from 12 independent institutions are used to compile the CPI. These indices are based on surveys among experts and managers.
The Corruption Perceptions Index only evaluates the public sector, i.e. politics and administration.
