CoSP in Doha: In corruption prevention, BAK focuses on youth work

After three days at the world's largest anti-corruption conference (CoSP) in Doha, Qatar, the Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK) draws a first positive balance.

In addition to a successful special event entitled ‘Innovating Integrity: Strengthening Ethics & AC Education Across Borders’, in which BAK Director Otto Kerbl was represented on the podium, the BAK photo exhibition met with a positive response from the international audience.

Generation of integrity: Educating and empowering youth

Under the title ‘Generation of integrity: Educating and empowering youth’ were five special events where experts exchanged views, in particular on preventing corruption among young people. At the side event ‘Innovating Integrity: Strengthening Ethics & AC Education Across Borders’ BAK Director Otto Kerbl was represented on the podium and presented BAK’s extensive prevention work, which is subsumed under the title ‘YOUTH4Integrity’.

He focused on the anti-corruption events for students, where young adults are sensitized to corruption through interactive workshops, strengthened in their integrity and thus prepared for their later professional life.

In this context, the first findings of the impact analysis of the anti-corruption events were also presented, which showed a clear influence of the school events on the perception of corruption among students. These results suggest that students reflect more deeply on the issues of corruption and integrity after attending school events.

Another focus was on the teaching material ‘For Integrity – Against Corruption’, which allows teachers to raise their students’ awareness of corruption and integrity without further preparation through around two teaching units.

The ‘Teach the teacher’ training, which takes place in cooperation with University College of Teacher Education Vienna, was also part of the presentation. This training enables teachers to raise awareness of corruption among their students through a toolbox and to act as multipliers among their colleagues.

The BAK photo competition ‘Values and role models in front of the lens’ and the associated photo exhibition during the CoSP were also the subject of the special event.

Photo exhibition at the Austria Booth in Doha

The works of the photo competition ‘Values and role models in front of the lens’ were exhibited during the conference at the Austria Booth. The response from international visitors is positive. In this context, there was an exchange between the delegation from the YouthLED BOARD of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and BAK.

Exchange with Korean delegation

On Monday, following the opening of this year's CoSP, a delegation from the Korean Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission and BAK held a meeting. It focused on an exchange of experience between the two authorities.
