Austria improves its ranking in Corruption Perceptions Index

The 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) was published on 30 January 2024. The non-governmental organisation Transparency International lists Austria in rank 20.

As in the previous year, Austria achieved 71 points, but improved by two places to rank 20. Austria shares its current position with France, the United Kingdom and the Seychelles.

Denmark is once again in first place this year (90 points), followed by Finland in second place and New Zealand in third place. Some of Austria’s neighbouring countries achieve good scores: Switzerland is in rank 6 and Germany and Luxembourg share rank 9.

Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI)

The annual Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) was published for the first time in 1995 by the non-governmental organisation Transparency International.
This index uses a scale from 0 (high level of perceived corruption) to 100 (no perceived corruption), on which all 180 participating countries are ranked according to their score.

The CPI summarises 13 individual indices from twelve independent institutions. These individual indices are based on data from surveys of experts and managers.

The Corruption Perceptions Index assesses the public sector (politics and administration).
