BAK delegation pays visit to new Dean of IACA

On 7 October 2024, a delegation from the Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK) visited the new Dean of the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in Laxenburg. In addition to getting to know each other personally, the agenda of the long-standing cooperation partners included working together on numerous future projects.

Together with a delegation from BAK’s Department 2 ‘Prevention, Education and International Cooperation’, Otto Kerbl, Director of BAK, met Professor Slagjana Taseva for the first time as Dean of IACA. Before taking office on 1 July 2024, Taseva had held positions including first President of the Anti-Corruption Commission of the Republic of North Macedonia and founder and first Chair of Transparency International Macedonia.

The agenda covered a wide range of topics relating to joint projects and collaborations. There was a particularly extensive exchange around education. In addition to discussions on various IACA training programmes, such as the Summer Academy or the Master in Anti-Corruption Studies (MACS), the focus was on possible future collaborations. Specifically, there were discussions about using BAK experts as lecturers at IACA, particularly in the areas of criminal investigations in the fight against corruption, measurement and measurability of corruption, whistleblowing systems or the development of national anti-corruption strategies. Furthermore, a management training programme on the topic of corruption prevention for Ministry of the Interior staff was envisaged, which could be supported by the participation and development of specific topics by IACA. The BAK delegation also presented its progress in case and strategic analyses of corruption data.

Regarding upcoming events, they discussed the IACA Assembly of Parties on 30 October 2024, the Annual Conference on Global Trends and Challenges in Preventing and Combating Corruption on 28 November 2024 and workshops for a BAK student photography competition at the Academy's premises in early 2025.
