Delegation from Moldova at the BAK

On 2 February 2023, the Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK) received a Moldovan delegation to provide an insight into its organisation and working methods.

As part of a study tour of the EU co-funded project "Strengthening the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Mechanisms in the Republic of Moldova", 18 representatives of several Moldovan authorities including the specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (APO), the specialised Prosecution Office for Organised Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) and the National Anticorruption Centre (NAC) and the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova as well as the German Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) as organiser visited the BAK in order to receive more detailed information about the Federal Bureau and its tasks and to exchange experience in the field of preventing and fighting corruption.

After the welcome and introduction of the BAK by the interim head of Department 1, a representative of Department 2 gave an overview of the BAK’s prevention work, emphasising the awareness-raising measures in the field of education.

Subsequently, the areas of activity of the International Cooperation Unit were presented as well as insights into the work of the Operational Service.

The government of the Republic of Moldova committed itself to making the fight against and prevention of corruption a central area of work in its action plan for the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU. In this respect, the main objective of the study tour was to have an exchange with the Austrian partner institutions regarding experiences and best practices of the Austrian anti-corruption authorities.

The knowledge gained is to serve as quality assurance for the existing specialised investigation and prosecution authorities and to contribute to ensuring effective and efficient prevention of and fight against corruption and money laundering.
